BTS: Their Worth

By the looks of it, it seems like BTS is just another K-pop group—“excessive” makeup, odd shades of hair, and beaming skin.

Through long years of training to debut, BTS seems to fit in with “every other K-pop band.” The same “manufactured” and “fake idols” you see today... However, Bangtan has made their deviant mark in the industry. They’re completely altering what K-pop is notorious for. With their down to earth personalities, relatable & woke music, these guys are the whole package.

While they are extremely talented as it’s shown through performances regarding dance, obviously being patent from their choreography. However, their true mark of aberrance seems to be their music—no, not the music you hear that talks about inappropriate desires, breakups, and obsessions—their music is completely different.

Not only their meaningful lyrics, but they hold such a merit of joy and actual musicianship. With their passionate, endearing, charming, and captivating performances they seem to resemble as a token of the true value of artists.

The Beginning of BTS

They debuted in early summer of 2013 from a small label named “BigHit Entertainment”. At that time, they only had debuted one other band which hadn’t gone well at all. In comparison to familiar and popular labels like the big three: JYP, SM, YG, BigHit was a label that obviously didn’t seem to appeal towards the industry.

Rap Monster (RM) was the first member recruited: it was back in ‘10 when he auditioned for a talent audition. At that time, he was merely a young, youthful adolescent, but he was already working with the hip-hop crowd. In the underground hip hop community, he worked with many individuals. Additionally, he was familiar with notoriously known rappers like Zico.

During the early years of being a trainee, RM yearned for debut, but profoundly, he only found himself practicing with 2 other trainees: J-hope and Suga. They felt hopeless, and actually impatient.

”New members weren’t being enlisted, so I felt uneasy and worried. People around us kept asking, ‘when in the world are you debuting?’”
—Rap Monster: Sports Seoul

Soon after, Jungkook had joined the team. He was extremely talented at that age, therefore lots of opportunities arose, and he was being scouted by many well off entertainment agencies. However, after hearing RM rap, he immediately realized that BigHit was the agency for him.

Later, Jimin, V, and Jin we recruited. That seemed to conclude the members needed for the new boy group to debut—with that being said, BTS worked hard. They prepared to release. their album that would allow society to define the talents and “worthiness” of BTS.

The album seemed to depict around youth at first insight, obviously emphasizing the experiences that adolescents feel today. With their debut song, “No More Dream”, they had a specific eye for their future concepts.

Taboo Subjects

BigHit allows their artists to be innovative. They are allowed to develop their own musicianship and styles. The members all contributed to the music, regardless of their experience or speciality. Whether it was writing lyrics, or perhaps choreography, BTS contributes consistently in their work.

Taking this further, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life albums seem to characterize not only topics of youth, but talks about maturity. This is a shift in concepts. Also, they address issues that come with youth, and how adolescents simply feel during those crucial periods.

As I said before, BTS is truly different. Their view as an outlier of the industry is obviously centered around their music—not the repetitive, disgusting topics about odd desires, but rather messages that speak of youth, passions, and dreams. Surely a topic that many artists don’t sing of, nevertheless talk about.

Their Unique Style

Sure, every single group/artist has their distinct flavor in some way, but what BTS promotes is not just a new topic, but an actual a novel thought towards the problems and appreciation of such intimacy. It’s beautiful with their ability to show such talent and emotion into their music.

I love them to bits, not only because their mysteriously good looking, or utterly talented, but because they’re actually the most realistic, and reachable artists there are to this day. Despite their toppling fame, they are the same passionate boys from 2013.

Overall, they are also artists that deserve so much appreciation, love, and respect. BTS has defined their worth since the day they stepped into the industry.
